Alongside my partner-in-crime and co-host Kate Mangino, I am over the moon to share this podcast with you. We believe that conversations about the impact of parenthood on our relationships need to be more common place. Parenthood is the hardest phase of live, and can have detrimental impacts on our relationships. But it doesn’t have to. With more support, common language and shared support, we can find a more loving way to navigate parenthood with stronger and more equal-ish partnerships.

This podcast is a little different to other formats, because Kate and I want this to be as helpful for our listeners as possible. So, we will be bringing expert interviews to you from across the topics of relationships, careers and parenthood. AND THEN, after every interview, we’ll have a coaching edit conversation. This is where Kate and I translate the interview into meaningful and relatable tips that you can directly translate to your relationship.

We are thrilled to be bringing Equal-ish to life, and hope you enjoy listening as much as we have had recording it.

The podcast dedicated to helping couples find an equal-ish household balance, while parenting and working.

Episodes 8&9. Allison Daminger

The household divide is greater than we think it is. It’s so much more than the physical tasks - it’s all the thinking and feeling work that goes along with the physical work. Dr. Allison Daminger, is an assistant professor of sociology at UW-Madison and the author of What's on Her Mind: The Mental Workload of Family Life. In this conversation, we talk to Allison all about cognitive labor (a term, by the way, that SHE defined) particularly in the context of parenting and household responsibilities.

Episodes 6&7. Marvyn Harrison

We’re joined by Marvyn Harrison. Marvyn is the founder of Dope Black Dads, a globally recognised platform exploring fatherhood, masculinity and mental health and is shaping conversation around Black fatherhood and redefining modern masculinity. In today’s interview, Marvyn helps us all see the way that society closes gates for fathers… and what we can all do to change that.

Episodes 4&5. Zach Watson

Are men choosing to ignore the mental load because they subconsciously still believe it is women’s work? This is the question we try to answer with this week’s guest, Zach Watson.

Zach is a former middle school math teacher turned viral content creator and invisible labor coach for modern dads. Zach’s marriage nearly ended in 2018 because he was in default mode and letting his wife do it all. Now he talks very openly about how that happened, what he is doing to make changes, and why other men might be motivated to take household equality seriously.

Episodes 2&3. Molly Millwood

Meet Molly Millwood PhD as we discuss explore the complexities of motherhood, parenting dynamics, and the emotional challenges faced by mothers and fathers. We talk to Molly about the impact of intensive parenting, the disparity in experiences between mothers and fathers, and the cultural pressures that shape parenting roles. We delve deep into the importance of emotional attunement, the impact of socialisation on gender roles, and the need for reciprocity in relationships.

Episode 1.

In the inaugural episode of the Equalish podcast, meet hosts Kate Mangino and Rachel Childs as we introduce our mission to help couples achieve a balanced household while navigating parenting and work.
